Cheap Sunday Funday Ideas

Article and Photo by Lindsay Johnson

Sunday is known as a day where we should be doing laundry, sitting around and dreadfully awaiting Monday. Recently, the term “Sunday Funday” was coined, and people began to realize that this day doesn’t need to be wasted. In the Tampa Bay area, there are plenty of inexpensive things to do to make your Sunday fun. Here are some of my favorite Sunday activities.

  1. Pack a lunch and have a picnic at Lettuce Lake ParkI love a good picnic while watching the birds and feeling the calming presence of undisturbed nature. If picnics aren’t your thing, other options include fishing, bicycling or hiking on the trails and canoeing or kayaking. There are also free nature tours that run on weekends at 8:30 a.m. if you can brave an early morning. Meet your group at the visitor center and see for yourself all the wonders nature has to offer.
  2. Browse the aisles of Big Top Flea Market to seek out hidden treasures for dirt cheap. Admission is free.
  3. Grab a friend and head to the movies for a matinee. Since matinees are shown before 5 p.m., the tickets are discounted generally between $5-7. Grab a lunch before you head over so that you don’t have to pay inflated prices for theater food. If you want to indulge while you’re there, share a popcorn with your friend and keep it cheap.
  4. Show off your bowling skills at AMF University Lanes. For a small price of $4.19 per person, per game on Sundays after 6 p.m., you can end your Sunday Funday with a good game of bowling with friends.

There should be no reason to stay in on Sunday and just wait around for Monday. What things do you like to do on Sundays?

  1. Just yesterday I was thinking that I never do anything on Sundays! I usually catch up on homework, but when I’m done with that I have nothing to do. I love the idea of going bowling, and I had no idea it was so cheap on Sundays. Great suggestions! I’ll definitely be putting some of these to use.
