Coffee, Books and Records, Oh My!

Photos and Article by Morgan Blauth

College students are always on the hunt for inexpensive coffee and good music.  At Mojo Books & Records, you will find just that. In addition, the back shelves are lined with books of all types just waiting to be read.  Science fiction, actual science, literature—all the genres are there.  Often, there is a discounted book rack outside to browse before you even enter the building.

Once you step into Mojo, you are greeted by the smell of coffee and books.  Make your way over to the coffee bar and order a Thai iced coffee.  I promise you won’t be disappointed.  And at only around $3 a cup, their coffees and teas are cheaper than many local alternatives.  On Wednesdays, they also give a USF discount if you show them your student ID.

But wait, there’s more!  There are shelves and shelves of records, from punk rock to electronics to movie soundtracks.  And if you want to make some extra cash, they buy used records in good condition. They also buy books, turntables, and CDs/DVDs.

There are often shows held at Mojo as well.  Many local bands get their start by playing venues around their hometown, so go support them if you have the opportunity.

Have you ever been to Mojo Books & Records?  I’d love to hear about it in the comments!

If you’ve never been, check them out.  They’re located right at 2540 E. Fowler Ave., Tampa, FL 33612.

  1. Thank you so much for writing a post about Mojo! I absolutely love it there, and I work right across the street so I get coffee and tea there regularly on my lunch breaks. My favorites are their Thai Coffee Frappe and the Lavender Latte. Seriously, don’t underestimate how amazing the taste of lavender can be in a coffee drink. The shows are always fun as well, and the people that attend are always friendly and inviting. I would definitely recommend that everyone visit at least once!
